It is my pleasure to welcome you to the UCSF Department of Surgery Research portal. Our department has an enviable portfolio of investigative inquiry, spanning basic and translational science, patient-facing and patient-centered research, clinical trials, health services research, quality improvement, innovation and bioengineering global health and disparities, and surgical education and skills development. The synergistic pairing of research and clinical activities reflects our deep commitment to advancing surgical health and well-being both locally and globally.
The UCSF Department of Surgery has a distinguished record of NIH and other federal funding, ranking second nationally. The faculty are pre-eminent, with many serving as officers of professional societies and specialty boards as well as leaders of clinical and research consortia. We are proud of the richly textured environment that our Department provides to train the next generation of not only surgeons but also surgical researchers and leaders.
Our mission, as a Department of Surgery, is to deliver the highest quality surgical care on an individual basis, while advancing surgical science and training to improve the quality of surgical care on a global basis.
